The following video essay highlights the complexities of transnational identity in the current Ethiopian-American Diaspora community of the Washington, DC region. Through the collection of images and oral stories of people residing in Washington, DC and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the video investigates the notion of the New American while comparing the capital cities of both countries. The title "The Newest Flower" is a play on the English translation for Addis Ababa, which means "New Flower."
