These tapestries, all subtitled with names of traditional storytellers across the African continent, include silk screened archives of civil rights protests, scanned from library archives. The hand stitched patchwork of the images echoing African-American quilting traditions, which historically have centered storytelling and community building amongst women. The tapestries become activated during the artist’s performance of The Willing, where the tapestries are worn as regalia to adorn the female performers.
